Digital Transformation

Digital transformation is not an IT project. It is an organizational change that technology makes possible — but which succeeds or fails because of people.

What I focus on in my work is what organizations genuinely need to implement digital programs in a lasting way: clear goals, robust architectures, teams with real ownership — and a leadership culture that holds all of it together.

Project Management and Delivery at Thoughtworks

What drives me in project work is that projects do not just formally close — they actually deliver what was promised. That is harder than it sounds.

It requires more than project plans and status reports. It requires close collaboration with clients, honest communication about risks — and the ability to hold course even in difficult phases.

High-Performing, Cross-Functional Teams

Teams that genuinely work are not produced by choosing the right methodology. They are built on shared goals, clear roles, psychological safety — and a leadership culture that supports all of it.

Over my career I have worked with both classically hierarchical and agile organizations. My conviction: agile principles only develop their full effect when they are lived — not when they are introduced as a process framework.

Program and Portfolio Management

When multiple projects run in parallel and resources need to be prioritized, the overarching governance layer quickly becomes the bottleneck — not for lack of tools, but because strategic goals and operational reality diverge. Making that gap visible, without letting governance become a bureaucracy in itself, is the hardest thing in portfolio management.

Industries

I have spent years working primarily in Retail, Transport and Logistics — industries where digital transformation is a daily reality.

Beyond these, I have gained experience across further industries: automotive, pharmaceuticals, mobility, high-tech component development, and insurance.

Together with Martin Milcke, CIO Mercedes-Benz Sales Germany: „Mastering Digital Transformation: A Case Study” — Thoughtworks, March/April 2020. The case study describes how Mercedes-Benz Sales Germany introduced agile ways of working and cross-functional teams in a large-scale software transformation program.
